Sierra Wireless ships EV-DO Rev A module

Sierra Wireless Inc., a Richmond, B.C. wireless component maker, is shipping two embedded mobiles for third-generation wireless equipment.

The MC8785V, for High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) equipment, provides peak data speeds of up to 7.2 Megabits per second on the downlink and 2.0 Mbps on the uplink. The vendor says it’s suitable for fixed wireless terminals and portable devices that require the ability to make voice calls. It can also be used for data communications and Global Positioning System (GPS) location-based services.

The MC5727, an embedded module for EV-DO Revision A equipment, provides peack data speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps on the downlink and 1.8 Mbps on the uplink. It is backwards compatible with EV-DO Release 0 and 1X networks.

Other Sierra Wireless product lines include AirCard, which is comprised of personal computer cards that act as wireless modems.
