Linux Insider reports that Zettaset CTO Brian Christian believes that big data framework Hadoop should come out of open source in order to be more useful to the enterprise.
The open source model serves the development community, not the needs of enterprises. Meanwhile, enterprises have the money to invest in innovation based on their needs, according to Christian.
There are certainly pain points with Hadoop — the volume of machines involved, the specialist nature of the skill set, the multiple copies of data — but none of those is better served by commercializing Hadoop.

Those same enterprises that have the wherewithal to develop Hadoop to meet their needs have the wherewithal to hire and train the necessary staff to do so. And an open source Hadoop is an opportunity for specialized third-party development and support offerings.
