Toronto-based Security Compass announced on Tuesday the latest release of SD Elements, an offering the application security provider said is designed to provide enhanced protection for application development (app dev) teams regardless of size.

SD Elements 4 is now available in three tiers — Enterprise, Professional and Express; the “comprehensive and constantly updated” security platform provides integrated training along with a refreshed and more intuitive user interface to help to ensure applications are protected against common vulnerabilities and exposures during the development lifecycle, according to the company.

The product supports “virtually all” development platforms/languages and development environments/tools; an updated AppSec content database covers multiple industry standards, regulations, and compliance specifications such as BSIMM, PCI-DSS, NIST-800-53, HIPPA, COPPA, OWASP Top 10, and SANS Top 25.

Security concerns need to be addressed early during the requirements and design phases of application development, not just during testing and release, said Rohit Sethi, chief operating officer at Security Compass in a statement.

Identifying and testing for bugs and exploits are vital components to any successful application development process; according to research firm IDC Canada, by 2018, 60 per cent of new applications will be “mobile first,” but Canadian enterprises should initially look at developing and deploying apps quickly, securely, and cost effectively to become more competitive from a global standpoint.
