Seagate Technology LLC has unveiled a 3.5-inch hard drive with both Serial Attached Small Computer Systems Interface and Fiber Channel connectivity. The Cheetah 15K.6 drive is available in 450 GB, 300 GB and 147 GB versions.
The Scotts Valley, Calif.-based manufacturer claims the drive, which has perpendicular recording, is 61 per cent more energy-efficient than previous drives, in both idle and operational modes.
It is targeted at both servers and enterprise storage hardware. Seagate claims the drive has 1.6 million hours mean time before failure. It includes Seagate’s PowerTrim technology, which is designed to optimize power consumption and increase data transfer rates by 28 per cent at 164 MB per second.
It boasts an error rate of 1X10E-16, and provides protection against system mis-compare errors.
