Samsung, SAP to build HANA-based mobile solutions

Samsung Electronics is working with SAP AG to deliver mobile device and wearable technology solutions based on the German software maker’s HANA cloud platform and Samsung’s mobile technology.

The two companies said they expect the collaboration to create new opportunities for software and app developers who can leverage the HANA database and provide opportunities for retail corporations looking for integrated mobile payment systems.

The plan involves enhancing Samsung’s portfolio of devices, wearables and enterprise mobility solutions with SAP Mobile Platform so that users benefit from a more secure and simpler integration with SAP’s ecosystem. This will enable the extension of enterprise applications in “a secure and intuitive manner” to the extended workforce and provide businesses with shorter time-to-market, quicker access to revenue streams and improved real-time decision support for executives and employees, a statement from the two companies said.

There are also plans to enable developers to optimize the SAP Fiori user experience and SAP Field Service for special features found in Samsung devices such as the S Pen, Multi Window modes, S Voice and Air Gesture.

The two companies are looking into the development of scalable CRM, human capital management  and ERP solutions on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform, which are expected to help deliver actionable insight and data on Samsung’s mobile devices and wearables.

SAP and Samsung will also collaborate on new enterprise applications and solutions through the formation of a planned Joint Innovation Centre.

The integration of their technologies will also help Web, mobile developers and large system integrator ecosystems to more quickly create solutions to address the needs of the market and address demands fuelled developments such as the Internet of Things (IoT).

Samsung and SAP said they will initially focus on key scenarios in vertical markets where the shift towards mobility and IoT in the workplace presents the greatest opportunities for the collaboration to bring value to customers.
