With enterprises increasingly seeing the importance of analyzing large data sets , IT departments and lines of business are looking for people with a wide range of data skills.
Some can be had from computer science graduates, but another potential source are people who have other IT skills and want a change in careers or who want to upgrade the older data analysis skills they have.
Toronto’s Ryerson University hopes to fill the gap this fall by offering a six course certificate in data analytics, big data, and predictive analytics through its school of continuing education.
The program will give students in-depth knowledge in using a variety of databases and data sets to analyze and understand data, as well as predict future eventualities, trends and patterns.
It will also give them proficiency in laying the groundwork, strategies and implementation of decision management.
The program is aimed at those who wish to become professionals who use data analytics, big data, and predictive analytics. They may be employed in a related field such as data warehousing, data management, or IT and need to acquire credentials for promotion or other professional enrichment, including competencies crucial to big data analytics.

Graduates will be ready to take the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) Certified Analytics Professional (CAP) exam.
