RuggedCom Inc. of Woodbridge, Ont. has announced a hardened router with firewall and virtual private networking, designed for outdoor use.
The RuggedRouter, which supports GOOSE messaging defined by the IEC61850 protocol, is designed to let users create wide-area networks and secure IP-based local-area networks against cyber attacks.
The vendor is targeting electrical power utilities, manufacturers and traffic control systems with the RuggedRouter, which includes network time synchronization using the IEEE 1588 standard, or GPS or IRIG-B. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -40 to 85 degrees Celsius, with no vans, and includes an option for dual redundant power supplies.
It has automatic failover for WAN interfaces and online help.
