Rugged tablet now comes with encryption solution

Motion Computing's R12 tablet has larger than average screen

A maker of rugged tablets has added encryption software to its largest device for users who need improved security.

Motion Computing said its Windows-based R12 tablets now carry WinMagic’s SecureDocM data encryption and security software. The software comes at no extra cost.

SecureDoc offers Full Volume Encryption (FVE), touch-enabled boot authentication, self-help password recovery, Windows 8.1 encrypted refresh and reset among its features. There’s a full suite called SecureDoc Enterprise Server, available at extra cost, with centralized management and other capabilities.

“Delivering products with security options has always been a priority,” Motion Computing marketing vice-president Peter Poulin said in a statement. “Today, encryption is widely thought of as the top form of security for mobile devices, and WinMagic is a leading provider. With SecureDoc shipping on R12 tablets, our customers can be confident their data is safe and their mobile workforce empowered.”

The R12 is a 12.5-in tablet for field workers who need a bigger than average screen. Options include a wireless keyboard, barcode scanner and RFID reader.

“We’re pleased to be able to work with leading vertical hardware suppliers like Motion Computing, Gerry McCracken, WinMagic’s vice-president of technology partnerships, said in a statement. “With our combined efforts, we’re delivering the most secure rugged tablet solution available in market today. The R12 is a great tablet solution for customers needing robust hardware and want to be able to leverage the best security available to insure the confidentiality of company and customer data.”
