Primus Telecommunications Canada Inc. announced on Tuesday that it would be forging its way deeper into the Internet service market with the acquisition of a Windsor, Ont.-based company.
Primus will purchase the Windsor Information Network Company Ltd. (WINCOM), one of the oldest Internet service providers in the Windsor region, according to a statement. WINCOM currently provides more than 5,000 customers with dial-up, high-speed DSL, wireless, WAN, VPN and Web hosting services.
The acquisition will enable Primus to extend its services further into the southwestern Ontario region. Primus announced in October that it had been selected as the primary long distance provider for the University of Western Ontario and its affiliates. As well, the company was chosen in October as the main Internet provider by the London And Regional Global Network (LARG*net), a not-for-profit organization which focuses on connectivity in the London, Ont. region.
Morris Whatmore, the president and owner of WINCOM, said in a statement that WINCOM customers would benefit from a host of new business-class services through the deal.
