Unified communications device developer Polycom Inc. is offering 360 – degree panoramic high definition viewing and support for Microsoft Corp.’s Lync UC system with its new CX5500 and CX5100 video conferencing stations.
Both Polycom CX5500 and CX5100 can be placed in the center of a meeting room table. Conference attendees on the other end of the line can see all the participants on the other line on their laptop or conference screens. The system is equipped with a technology that places the image of the speaker on the middle top portion of the screen. Video images are captured in a more natural 30-frames/second rate.

The new Polycom® CX5500 delivers enterprise-grade video and audio collaboration capabilities in an easy-to-use system that can be plugged into a USB port on a laptop. The Polycom® CX5100 provides the same HD panoramic USB video experience for customers who don’t require standalone conference phone connectivity.
The devices which also double as a session initiation protocol (SIP) audio conference phone now benefit from Lync’s data sharing capabilities, according to Ted Colton, group vice-president for strategic alliance at Polycom.
“We’ve added new features provide users with content sharing capabilities so that they can share images and documents on their PC on the conference screen,” he said. “This collaboration feature was highly sought by our users.”
Colton said the devices’ multi-functionality a videoconferencing, SIP phone and collaboration tool will help organization cut down the cost of purchasing several devices and reduces the complexity of device configuration.
