PeopleSoft Inc. has agreed to acquire Skills Village Inc., a supplier of contract service management software.
The deal announced Wednesday, sees PeopleSoft paying US$33 million for the privately-held, Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company, said Craig Conway, CEO and president of PeopleSoft. It is expected to close on May 31.
By acquiring Skills Village, PeopleSoft is able to strengthen its enterprise management software line-up. Skills Village software is focused on management of contract labour such as that from temporary staffing or outsourcing agencies or outside contractors.
The two companies have already worked together. In March 2000 they announced a partnership to launch an XML (Extensible Markup Language) business-to-business marketplace for services firms. The service made use of Skills Village’s Internet-based procurement platform that, at the time of the announcement, provided access to more than 20,000 contracting consultants.
