While implementing a secure identification-management infrastructure is similar to any other IT initiative, managers must remember that it’s very complex in scope and presents numerous challenges, Novell’s vice-president and CTO says.
“It’s hard,” Alan Nugent stressed, during his address to delegates at the Devising A Secure Identity Management Strategy: Building Rings of Trust seminar, hosted by IT World Canada Inc. in Toronto. “It’s not only hard because of the breadth, it is also hard because of the depth that’s required in each of the specific areas surrounding identity management.”
Nugent said there are many challenges organizations face when implementing an identification management strategy. They include issues over data ownership, application integration, organizational realignment, architectural design and the scope of the project.
“If you do not have individuals on your staff who are certified security professionals, I recommend getting some of those individuals certified or find a vendor, partner or firm, that can help with those details.”
