Oracle Corp. [NASDAQ: ORCL] has announced an upgrade to the user interface for its open source MySQL database, saying it has addressed more than 200 “ideas and requests” from the user community.
“MySQL Workbench 6.0 is the best release to date, with more capabilities and enhanced ease of use,” wrote senior product manager Mike Frank in a post on Oracle’s MySQL blog.

Frank says the upgrades to MySQL Workbench not only enhances usability, but also adds data management features and support for data modeling.
Among the new features:
* A streamlined graphical user interface for unified database management and development.
* New schema management tools.
* Wizard-based migration tools for Microsoft SQL Server, Postgre SQL and Sybase’s Adaptive Server Enterprise, SQL Anywhere and SQL Lite.
* The enterprise edition also includes MySQL Enterprise Backup GUI and MySQL Audit Log Inspector.
MySQL Workbench supports a number of platforms including Windows, Mac OS X 10.6 and higher, Oracle Linux 6, Red Hat Linux 6, Fedora 18, Ubuntu 12.04 and Ubuntu 13.04.
