There’s an old saw that says there are lies, damned lies and statistics.
Which brings us to measuring the popularity of open source cloud computing platforms for private and hybrid clouds.
According to Network World U.S., a Chinese blogger watching the development of the fledgling projects has concluded interest in CloudStack is growing compared to OpenStack.
The methodology? A Java program that pulls in every new discussion feed in each project’s ecosystem, as well as on mailing lists and responses to comments.
OpenStack and Eucalyptus have the largest number of community members, the blogger estimates, but CloudStack – now under the Apache Software Foundation — has had more active discussions.

Obviously this isn’t supposed to be scientific study, but it does suggest that those interested in an open source cloud solution have yet to be solidly behind one approach.
