SpaceX has now won approval to put almost 12,000 satellites into orbit. Disney’s got big plans to build new Star Wars attractions at its theme parks. And a new app offers to close you, at least in a cartoon avatar sort of way.

Trending on Reddit, Elon Musk will launch 7,500 satellites into space. As if launching a Tesla into the final frontier wasn’t enough, SpaceX now has approval to put a huge interconnected web of satellites into low-earth orbit. This is in addition to another 4,400 that have already been approved. It’s all to support the Starlink broadband network, which aims to provide highspeed Internet coverage around the world. SpaceX is thought to be investing $10 billion into this project. When it’s done, the speeds and latency should rival ground-based fibre optic networks. If you’re not impressed yet, consider that there are only 1,886 satellites at present. So far, SpaceX has two satellites in orbit.

Talking about space, and trending on LinkedIn, Disney is planning a Star Wars themed hotel. It’s part of a huge investment into its theme parks that the New York Times reported on last week. Technology is heavily involved in making the Florida location feel like a luxury starship. Dubbed “Project Hubble,” the hotel will have no windows. Instead, huge video screens will provide a space view to gaze out. When you want to go to the rides, don’t walk. Instead use Lyft’s app to order up a “minnie” van – as in “Minnie mouse.” Oh, and guests are encouraged to dress up in Star Wars costumes.

Trending on Product Hunt, Genies 2.0 – described as “the most intelligent and dynamic avatars on the market.” Do you want a little digital cartoon character is your virtual clone? No, me either. But apparently there are some people who do think this is a good idea. Genies uses 3D motion picture quality to create these big-headed avatars. And apparently you can select from over a million options to exact its personality type, skin tones, eye colour, hair style, clothing and who knows what else. Who cares? Anyway, if you do, you can find the Genies app in the App Store and Google Play.
