Mozilla mobile browser updated

The newest version of Minimo, the Mozilla mobile browser, became available last month amid changes within the Minimo project that make its future uncertain. Minimo 0.2, available for free download, is compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 and is smaller and faster than previous versions, according to early users who posted comments to the blog about the browser. It also supports GPS, a cleaner user interface and a start page that includes bookmarks and search.

IBM, Oracle team up

IBM Corp. and Oracle Corp., more often rivals than partners, have joined in creating an industry consortium focused on establishing what they call “service science” as both a key area for investment by companies and governments, and as a full-blown academic discipline. The vendors along with two services organizations – the Technology Professional Services Association and the Service & Support Professionals Association (SSPA) – and other IT companies and universities launched the Service Research & Innovation Initiative last month.

SAP AG’s Agassi resigns

Shai Agassi, once believed to be the future successor of SAP AG chief executive officer Henning Kagermann, has resigned his post as president of the German company’s product and technology group, effective April 1. Agassi was slated to become co-CEO of SAP upon Kagermann’s planned retirement later this year.

Dell to offer Linux PCs

Dell has confirmed plans to offer the Linux operating system on select desktop and notebook computers. In an announcement on the company’s IdeaStorm Web site, Dell said it will provide specific models and details about the configurations and Linux versions offered in the coming weeks. Last month, Dell unveiled an online survey that asked prospective buyers what they would buy if Dell once again offered Linux-loaded machines for sale. Over 70 per cent of respondents said they would use a Linux-loaded Dell for both home and office use.
