MTS Allstream names partner for service offerings

Winnipeg-based MTS Allstream Inc. announced Thursday the signing of a multi-year agreement with Alcatel-Lucent that will enhance the company’s telecommunication service offerings.

Paris-based Alcatel-Lucent – which provides hardware, software, and services globally to both service providers and enterprises – will allow MTS Allstream to offer its full set of converged services over a single IP/MPLS infrastructure. This will enable enhanced services for MTS Allstream, including Voice over IP, T-Commerce and other similar services. MTS Allstream will also be able to offer broadcast TV and video on demand in high definition (HD) quality as well as features like multiple picture-in-picture and personal video recorder (PVR) functionality.

The service is based on Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) as well as Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV and multimedia platform. Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide the TPSDA architecture and will also be the end-to-end network integrator.

MTS Allstream currently has the largest installed base of customers for telco digital TV subscribers in Canada.
