MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc. released its Internet-enabled, Advantex r7 wireless workforce management software suite this month. Advantex accepts work generated by other applications and assigns it to the most appropriate mobile worker, based on skill set or other factors. The software enhances access to critical corporate information systems, such as customer records and inventory, and also reports on performance to help management make decisions. Advantex has new web- and WAP-based, “thin client” mobile applications, in addition to its traditional mobile application. Advantex is built using an object-oriented design on N-tier architecture. It processes hundreds of thousands of workforce management-related transactions each day from thousands of enterprise clients by deploying multiple software components over a distributed server system. It also lets service providers interact with any of the Internet’s millions of connected PCs. Advantex’s architecture leverages global standards for Internet communication such as eXtensible Markup Language (XML), HyperText Markup Language (HTML), Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), ISO standard Interface Definition Language (IDL), Java, and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP). Advantex also embeds industry standard products including Oracle 8i’s database products for the database, BEA WebLogic Enterprise for distributed, CORBA-based architectures and scalability, BEA WebLogic Server for web server access, the Mercator Enterprise Broker e-business integration software, and ESRI’s MapObjects for map-based dispatching. The Advantex business application suite is modular and configurable: service providers choose the modules and functionality that best meet their needs and adapt the system to their unique business environment.
