Following the release of a slew of new Microsoft products, the company is also plugging some new security holes.
This week, Microsoft released updates to address vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer 10 for the first time, as well as patches for older editions of the browser, Windows 8, Windows RT and Word. According to an analyst quoted in this ComputerWorld article, Microsoft’s MS12-077 bulletin, which dealt with the IE10 bug, was the most significant among the updates, followed by MS12-079, which addressed a rich-text vulnerability in Microsoft Word.
As frequently used programs that are major targets for hackers, browsers are high on Microsoft’s security watchlist, explained Jason Miller, manager of research and development at VMware.
Meanwhile, the RTF vulnerability could have allowed hackers to spread malicious code through the preview function in Outlook 2007, he added.
