Michelin guide goes online

Michelin’s motoring Website with maps, route-planning, up-to-date traffic information, local guides and weather forecasts goes live today.

Michelin is one of the world’s longest running hotel, restaurant and travel guides, first published in 1900 – and now it’s added an extra channel.

The site – www.viamichelin.co.uk – covers 43 European countries and enables drivers to plan routes from one town to another, check road maps and receive news on roadworks, diversions and other hazards from TrafficMaster.

Hotel and restaurant information is taken from Michelin’s Red Guide and tourist information from the Green Guide.

The travel information is free, but Michelin is hoping that the site will tempt motorists into buying its maps, printed editions of the Red and Green Guides, an onboard navigation CD developed with Tele Atlas and the Red Guide for Palm. All of these are, or soon will be, available to order from the site.

Michelin also intends to offer the technology behind the site as services to business users.
