Background
Since its inception in 1971, Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) has aimed to provide auto insurance coverage to all Manitobans at rates lower than those charged by private companies. Much of the focus is on the provision of universal basic first-party all perils
coverage, personal injury protection plan (PIPP) coverage and third-party liability coverage. Although coverage is sold directly to the public by MPI, the primary means of obtaining coverage is through a network of independent insurance brokers located throughout the province.
