Klocwork will ship later this month version 9.0 of its Insight Pro product for source code analysis, which the company says offers capabilities for agile programming projects.
Offered as a suite of tools, Insight Pro analyzes code for memory and resource leaks, buffer overflows, and security vulnerabilities. With version 9, Klocwork is “stepping outside of the traditional realm of just finding bugs,” said Gwynn Fischer, CTO at Klocwork.
Capabilities in version 9.0 are intended to agile developers, who have to produce working code within a short time, Fisher said.
Collaborative code review in the release enables code to be reviewed by an architect or team leader. An RSS feed notifies developers of code that is ready for review.
“All code is made available to everybody,” Fisher said. “Anybody can take part in the review of that code at any time.”
Also featured is a database of semantic information about a user’s code base. The database can be used to conduct data flow analysis to find defects in code.
Version 9.0 offers code refactoring, for building code that is maintainable and functionally divided so the next developer who looks at it can tell what the code does. “The code becomes self-documenting,” Fischer said.
Available on Thanksgiving, version 9.0 also can be used in non-agile environments, such as waterfall projects.
Pricing for version 9.0 costs about $1,700 per user for one year.
