Intel Corp. has announced the availability of its 5th generation Intel Core vPro processor family, promising wireless innovations, built-in security, faster performance and improved manageability to meet the needs of a more mobile workforce.
According to Intel, with this latest generation it has aimed to address three specific areas for a better mobile work experience: PC design innovation, wireless display and wireless docking.
Business can now chooses from form factors such as 2-in-1s, Ultrabooks, ultrathin clamshells and mini PCs that offer more battery life and performance in a smaller form factor. Intel Pro WiDi allows for cable-free presentations by connecting PCs with displays wirelessly and offering IT needed control tools. And Intel Wireless Docking allows automatic docking to monitors, keyboards, mice and USB accessories as soon as the user approaches their desk, without need for a traditional mechanical dock.
“Our goal is to enable all users to simply work better by offsetting the growing challenges of today’s businesses,” said Tom Garrison, vice-president and general manager of Intel’s Business Client Platforms, in a statement. “With new devices based on 5th generation Intel Core vPro processors, we aim to transform the user experience by helping them compute from virtually anywhere without the clutter and burden of wires.”
Intel is working with 12 leading PC vendors on the new designs based on 5th generation Intel Core vPro processors; some are available now and more are expected in the coming weeks.
“There is a long history of technology-led, workplace transformation,” said Genevieve Bell, vice-president and Intel Fellow, in a statement. “Innovations in form factors, design, and infrastructure has shifted not only the way we work, but the kind of things we can do at work.”
Security has also been enhanced in the new processor family, with hardware-enhanced security and manageability capabilities. In combination with the Intel Solid-State Drive Pro 2500 Series devices, IT departments can implement built-in data encryption capabilities.
