Intel Corp. announced Wednesday it would combine the company’s Network Communications Group and its Communications Products Group into a single business unit in an effort to focus on development of products for Internet infrastructure and networking equipment.
The new unit will be known as the Networking and Communications Group, Intel said in a statement. It will bring together Intel Internet Architecture (IXA)-based silicon components for voice and data networks with the company’s OEM (original equipment manufacturer) communications platforms and systems for customer voice and data-driven Internet operations, Intel said
Sean M. Maloney, executive vice-president and former director of the company’s Sales and Marketing Group, will head the combined business unit, Intel said. Mark A. Christensen, vice-president and general manager of the Network Communications Group, and John H.F. Miner, vice president and general manager of the company’s Communications Product Group, will report to Maloney.
Mike Splinter, executive vice-president, will replace Maloney as director of Intel’s Sales and Marketing Group. Splinter was formerly co-general manager with Sunlin Chou of the company’s Technology and Manufacturing Group. Robert J. Baker, meanwhile, will replace Splinter as co-manager of the technology and manufacturing group, Intel said. Baker is now vice-president and general manager of Intel’s Components Manufacturing.
In addition to the business unit restructuring, Intel announced that Stephen P. Nachtsheim and Gerhard H. Parker have announced they are retiring. Nachtsheim, 56, has served as vice-president and director of Intel Capital, the company’s venture capital arm. Parker, 57, will step down in May from his post as executive vice-president and general manager of Intel’s new business group
