It’s not quite a catchy name – everyone expects an IT vendor to only sell good technology – but Good Technology Corp. has made a name for itself in mobile application and device management after going through some evolutions.
It began under a different name making MP3 players for the Handspring personal organizer in the late 1990s, then branched into wireless email access.
Another evolution took place earlier this year when Christy Wyatt, the former head of U.S. bank Citigroup Inc.’s consumer ebusiness and mobile technology division, became CEO.
Recently IDG had a lengthy interview with Wyatt in which she talked about her plans for the company, including making products more affordable for “the average enterprise.” Last week the company announced new pricing for Good for Enterprise (a secure email and calendar solution) for US$5 a user a month.
In the interview she reveals that despite being an executive she’s just as willing to go around corporate rules as the next person. When at Citigroup if the company-supplied device had security controls that prevented her from doing what she wanted, she just grabbed her personal handset.
