IBM Corp. Tuesday announced that 100 independent software vendors have signed on to use software from its Workplace initiative, a new client computing model that gives employees a single way to access, share and manage applications and data. The company also announced that it has launched a Workplace Resource Center on its DeveloperWorks site to give developers and partners online access to tools and other resources for IBM Workplace technology.
Workplace, from IBM’s Lotus Software division, allows businesses to migrate from PC-centric workplaces to network-managed delivery of employee tools and applications in a roles-based environment. The technology allows companies to centrally manage, provision and deploy business applications and tools across a variety of devices, such as desktop PCs or handheld devices, IBM said.
“IBM Workplace … helps reduce the development costs of building and deploying industry-specific solutions across a wide range of client devices and operating systems,” Scott Hebner, vice president of marketing and strategy at IBM Software, said in the statement.
The companies supporting Workplace include independent software vendors Bowstreet Inc., Hyperion Solutions Corp. and Adobe Systems Inc., according to IBM.
