IBM China/Hong Kong Ltd., in conjunction with Jardine One Solution (HK) Ltd., won a bulk purchase contract from the Hong Kong Hospital Authority for the supply of approximately 10,000 IBM ThinkCentre desktop personal computers over the next two years.
The contract, worth US$4.5 million, is the largest purchase of PCs in Hong Kong.
Extendable for another 12 months, the bulk tender contract covers the supply of IBM ThinkCentre A50P and M50 models, and each will be configured with a 2.4MHz Intel Pentium 4 processor, 256M bytes of memory, and 40G-byte hard disk.
IBM won the contract through a public tender process and in the face of competitive bids from other major PC vendors.
“IBM’s bid for the new PC bulk purchase contract was the most competitive and provides us with the technologies we need to help streamline our PC maintenance and support processes,” said Michael Fung, senior systems manager, IT department, HK Hospital Authority. “The level of support we get from our IT vendors is also an important part of the picture and we are satisfied with the service we receive from IBM.”
According to Fung the new IBM ThinkCentres will be deployed as office workstations and IT systems including Clinical Management System and Clinical Departmental System. These systems are the HA’s core enterprise-wide information systems encompassing patients’ medical records and laboratory test results to facilitate medical staff in making diagnoses and treatments.
When fully implemented, the clinical systems will be accessible from around 12,000 PCs across the HA’s network.
