Toronto has cracked the top 20 in Amazon’s shortlist, a new iPhone update will let users control the phone’s performance, and a drone performs a daring rescue hours after being unveiled.

One of these 20 cities could host Amazon's second HQ
On Twitter, Amazon has cut its list of 238 cities to 20 in the heated contest to claim its second headquarters, and Toronto is on it. Amazon says it expects to invest over $5 billion in its construction and include as many as 50,000 high-paying jobs through the project. Other cities on the list include Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington. Toronto’s pitch pointed to the city’s quality of life, transit investments and openness to immigration, and the fact that, quote “We are also fun.”
On Facebook, people are claiming over Apple’s decision to offer users more control over their iPhones performance. The chatter comes after Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed an upcoming iOS update will let you choose whether or not to throttle the phone’s performance when the batteries degrade. It was discovered last December that Apple was intentionally slowing down the iPhone’s performance, to prevent unexpected shutdowns, when batteries were on their last legs. The discovery has led to multiple lawsuits.
And finally, still on Facebook, a new rescue drone is being hailed a hero after it rescued two teens 700 m offshore in Australia. The drone, barely out of its box after an unveiling in Lennox Head, located the boys within two minutes of the distress call and dropped an inflatable flotation device to them. The two then swam to shore and were unharmed. Not bad for the first day on the job.
