Get Your IT Management MBA Online

Alberta’s Athabasca University, a pioneer in online interactive education, has announced what it describes as Canada’s first fully interactive, online MBA program for IT Management.

Utilizing Lotus Notes groupware, the program employs a variety of features to keep students stimulated and involved, such as group ‘watercooler’ discussion sessions, and team-based assignments and case-study projects. In addition to online activities, students will be required to complete a detailed applied project and attend a week-long summer school and two weekend schools.

The course will take about 30 to 36 months to complete and will cost $25,000 for students living in Canada, a bargain when compared to residential courses, which can cost two to two and a half times that amount. Enrollment is expected from across Canada and internationally. Due to the flexible nature of the course – accessible virtually anywhere at any time – it is ideal for business managers and professionals seeking to upgrade their skills without leaving their current positions.

Athabasca is partnering with several major IT companies to develop the program’s courses. Focusing on applied concepts, the basic courses include:

Information, Technology and Performance, which deals with the process of developing an effective information strategy for managing an organization; Project Management for Information Technology Projects, which looks at applied project management skills linked to technology innovation, technology infrastructure change and new ventures; and Electronic Commerce, which looks at the use of EDI, Internet, supply chain management and customer support systems.

Electives include Systems Integration, Knowledge Management and Improving Business Performance through the Application of IT (residential elective).

Application deadline for enrolling in the September 1999 intake is June 15. For further information, readers can contact Dr. Peter Carr at (780) 460-3480, or email him at peterca@athabascau.ca
