Fujitsu Limited announced recently that it will fully transition its flagship overseas IT services and consulting subsidiaries, ICL and DMR Consulting, to the Fujitsu corporate name as part of an effort to strengthen its global IT solutions brand.
Fujitsu intends to further build on its position by using and enhancing the individual and collective strengths of ICL and DMR Consulting under the common Fujitsu brand.The corporate name changes, which are scheduled to be completed in the current fiscal year ending March 2002, are also intended to take advantage of Fujitsu’s three-year, $500 million global corporate brand advertising campaign, now entering its second phase. Details regarding the newly announced corporate renaming, including the new company names and rollout schedule for particular operations in different countries, will be announced in September.
CIPS member honoured
Recently in Edmonton, the YWCA honoured Faye West, CIPS President 2000-2001, as a Woman of Distinction for her role in promoting Information Technology to the public in general and to young women in particular.
The YWCA Tribute to Women of Distinction Awards Gala was inaugurated in 1982 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the YWCA in the city of Edmonton. Since then over 500 women in the community have been nominated and recognized for their commitment, achievements, and contributions to the community. In 33 cities across Canada, the YWCA holds Women of Distinction events to profile the work that women and girls are doing, and to show the difference they are making in their respective communities. The Award recipients are chosen based on the following criteria: the originality, innovation, excellence or impact of the nominee’s contribution; the personal integrity, leadership ability, dedication and/or perseverance of the nominee and; the public support and/or peer recognition of the nominee’s achievement or contribution.
Sun to acquire Isopia
Sun Microsystems, Inc. recently announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire ISOPIA, Inc., a privately held company located in Toronto.
ISOPIA is the developer of an Integrated Learning Management System (ILMS) that enables the delivery of online training and the end-to-end management of training products entirely through the Web. Sun expects that this acquisition will further enhance its position in the IT and broader corporate education world by enabling it to consistently provide enterprises worldwide with complete learning services, according to the company.
