Fujifilm Canada Inc.’s FinePix 4700 Zoom digital camera has a resolution of 4.3 million square-pixel CCD. It provides 2400 by 800, 1280 by 960 or 640 by 480 24-bit colour resolution, which is designed to ensure images rich in colour and clarity. The camera features large octagonal shaped photodiodes situated on 45 degree angles. This photodiode pattern increases sensitivity, improves signal-to-nose ratio and offers a wider dynamic range, according to Fujifilm. The Fujinon aspherical zoom lens has a focal length equivalent to a 38-114mm zoom on a 35 mm camera. The optical zoom is supported by a digital zoom that responds in .2x steps, producing a similar effect to an optical zoom. The camera has five programmed exposure modes for ease of use and accurate exposure: auto, portrait, scenic, night scene and full manual. The camera comes with three metering modes – multi, centre and spot. The FinePix 4700 also has five flash modes, including automatic, red-eye reduction, flash-on-demand, flash cancel and slow synch flash for motion effects. The camera weighs nine ounces and can record eight, 18 or up to 45 images on its bundled 16MB SmartMedia card, depending on the image compression level selected. The optional SmartMedia card reader transfers files through a USB port at up to 12Mbps. Floppy disk adapters and PC card adapters are also available.
