Despite the fact that a recent survey of senior executives found that document overload is costing Canadian companies billions of dollars a year, many organizations have little or no document management strategy and few, if any, have assigned overall responsibility for the problem to a member of the executive team.
These and other issues related to document management were discussed at the first in a series of executive breakfasts, entitled “Frankly Speaking, with John Pickett”, held last month in Toronto. The event was attended by about 30 IT executives.
Mr. Pickett, Editor-in-Chief of IT World Canada, was joined by featured speakers Dr. Peter Richardson, noted Canadian business author and Professor of Strategic Management, Queen’s University School of Business, and Cameron Hyde, President of Xerox Canada.
Dr. Richardson provided insights from his extensive research into document management, and discussed some of the findings outlined in his whitepaper, ” Coping with the Crisis in the Office: Canada’s $50 Billion Challenge“.
Mr. Hyde shared his first-hand knowledge of how companies are approaching – or in many cases, failing to approach – the problems presented by the spiraling volume of paper and electronic documents in the workplace.
