In an industry that moves as fast as the networking equipment space, it’s easy to forget what was grabbing headlines only a year ago. One of the defining alterations that marked last year’s networked world was the “giants-splitting-up-into-multiple-companies” craze. Examples included Lucent Technologies spinning off its PBX, structured cabling and LAN-based data businesses, and Cabletron breaking up into four separate entities, including Enterasys Networks, which plays in the enterprise network equipment arena.
