L.M. Ericsson Telephone Co. has signed a licensing deal with Dai Nippon Printing Co. Ltd. (DNP) of Japan, the first of a series to provide Bluetooth designs based on Ericsson technology to third-party manufacturers, Ericsson announced Friday. The two companies hope the deal will speed development cycles for Japanese companies building consumer devices with Bluetooth.
Ericsson subsidiary Ericsson Technology Licensing AB is seeking “Design Houses” around the world to license its Bluetooth intellectual property to local manufacturers. DNP, Japan’s chip designer and largest printing company, is its first such partner, Ericsson said in a statement.
The company plans to seek more partnerships with other system LSI (large-scale integrated circuit) design companies to promote Bluetooth-embedded products, the statement said.
