3Com Corp. has announced enhancements to the 3Com management application, Network Supervisor, as well as the availability as well as its Advanced Package. New features, according to a press release issued by the company, include the ability to distribute software upgrades for network devices across the network with just a few clicks of a mouse. The Advanced Package for the Network Supervisor uses a feature called bulk agent upgrade to distribute software upgrades across the network. Network Supervisor 3.5 is included with most 3Com SuperStack 3 devices, but is also available for free download from the company’s Web site at www.3com.com. The Advanced Package is also available now for trial download from the Web site, or can be purchased for $745.
Veritas Software Corp. has announced that its Veritas Foundation Suite, its storage virtualization platform, now supports Red Hat Linux 7.2 Standard Edition, and selected prior versions of Red Hat Linux 7.1Errata. The Foundation Suite combines both file system and volume management technologies to offer a management platform for enterprise storage and storage area network environments. The Veritas FlashSnap option, which provides point-in-time copies of data, is also available with the release. The Veritas Foundation Suite for Linux is available now, and pricing begins at US$1,500 per single-CPU server. FlashSnap, which is a separately licensed option, is also now available with pricing beginning at US$750. Internet security gateway manufacturer ServGate Technologies Inc. has added both Web caching and denial-of-service (DoS) attack protection to its SG200 and SG300 security gateway line of products. The new features are designed to enhance bandwidth utilization and network performance, according to the company. The built-in Web caching server allows both the SG200 and SG300 to store and re-serve frequently-viewed Web pages from behind the network’s firewall.
