Markham, Ont.-based Platform Computing Inc. has released a beta version of its enterprise grid software solution to a financial institution to integrate all of its distributed IT assets, allowing applications to be shared across the entire enterprise.
New York-based investment bank JP Morgan Chase and Co. has chosen to implement the grid software solution called Platform Symphony. The announcement was made at the Wall Street IT Conference in New York on Thursday.
The software will allow the financial institution to fully utilize its existing computing assets to accomplish more with less infrastructure expense. In the specific case of financial institutions, the offering will enable them to connect applications across integrated assets like credit, interest rates, equities, foreign exchange and other services to leverage resources and information to develop customized services to better meet their clients’ changing needs, according to a release.
“By creating virtual pools of IT assets with Platform Symphony, financial institutions no longer need to sacrifice speed or accuracy – they can get performance, cost and scale in one, integrated enterprise grid solution, without being constrained by their hardware,” said Michael Sharma, vice-president, financial services for Platform, in a statement. “If a trader can reduce his risk analysis from one hour to two minutes, this has a significant impact on his revenue stream.”
Through integration with in-house distributed computing infrastructures that use Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM), CORBA, messaging MPI, Web services, .Net and J2EE, the software transforms existing financial services technology environments into a scalable grid computing operation, according to the company.
A Platform spokesperson said the solution, though initially just geared towards financial institutions, will eventually be more widely available to enterprises in various other industries.
The grid software supports Linux, Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows NT and Windows 2000.
