Novell Inc. announced the company’s Liberty Alliance-compliant identity management product and plans to deliver it to customers at the end of 2002. The product, code named Saturn, uses the Liberty Alliance version 1.0 specifications to exchange identity information between companies. It also allows the users themselves to decide whether their identities will be federated from one Web site to another. Novell also plans to implement the Liberty Alliance specifications in its Novell iChain Web security solution. iChain can sit in front of Web servers without requiring any software on the servers themselves. Charon Systems announced it has signed a contract with Suncor Energy Inc. to deliver monitoring and support for Suncor’s IT infrastructure. As part of the implementation, Charon said it will review and redesign existing procedures to improve data reporting functions and will transfer data from Suncor’s Remedy system to Charon’s data centre. When completed, Suncor’s IT team will have customized reporting on virtually all aspects of its IT network via the formers Managed Support Program (MSP) portal. The MSP is intended to provide businesses with support, including remote monitoring and management notification, should a problem arise. FalconStor Software Inc. and Acer Inc. announced they have entered into a global OEM partnership. Acer will embed FalconStor’s IPStor into selected Acer Altos servers to deliver storage networking solutions. Acer’s storage solutions consist of servers for a wide range of business applications for specific network environments. IPStor features unified SAN and NAS connectivity and offers replication and back-up over Fibre Channel and IP/iSCSI. The products will be bundled with a range of services to suite different customer needs. IPStor also offers active-active failover, so that if one of them fail or need to be shut down for maintenance, its counterpart will take over the workload, without any I/O transaction.
