Every company needs a business continuit and disaster recovery strategy, even if, according to recent research, as many as 20 per cent don’t. But, as InformationWeek’s Wendy Schuchart points out, if employees don’t follow procedures, the most thorough business continuity and disaster recovery plan won’t work.

Schuchart outlines several good reasons employees aren’t aligned with business continuity plans, but one reason that flies under the radar is the perception of what constitutes a disaster. We’re accustomed to thinking of massive flooding, hurricanes and tornadoes as a disaster, when in fact, the more likely disaster to strike a business is a malware infection, accidental data loss or employee clumsiness shutting down systems.
