eHealth Ontario’s tech woes never seems to cease.
The latest wrinkle in the effort to computerize and connect the province’s disparate health care systems is the cancellation of a $46.2 -million contract with consulting firm CGI to create and manage a diabetes registry for the province.

eHealth Ontario CEO Greg Reed — a former consultant who took over at eHealth after a spending scandal unseated former CEO Sarah Kramer in 2009 — cited repeatedly missed development deadlines as one reason for the termination of the contract.

The diabetes registry project was a centrepiece of the eHealth plan to create a chronic disease management system. CGI was one of three companies shortlisted to submit proposals. eHealth Ontario awarded the contract to CGI in August 2010.
