EDS Inc. on Friday finalized the acquisition a managed hosting business that will allow for the automation of its global data centre infrastructure.
The transaction between EDS and Loudcloud Inc. was announced on June 17, and was completed about two weeks ahead of schedule. The acquisition gives EDS access to Loudcloud’s prominent list of 50 enterprise Web hosting clients.
EDS also signed a three-year licensing agreement for Opsware IT automation software that will now be deployed across the company’s worldwide data centre network. The software will automate service delivery and applications management, initially within EDS’s managed Web hosting business, and in the future, across the company’s entire global data centre infrastructure.
Toronto-based EDS Canada spokesperson Joe Konecny said the automation will not affect current EDS customers, but will affect future customers. The global services company expects the deployment of Opsware to reduce costs and improve efficiencies in the data centre by automating the complete lifecycle of managing business applications and underlying infrastructure, according to a statement.
