Dell unveils two Citrix offerings in Wyse lineup

Las Vegas, NV – Two Citrix-oriented offerings are coming to the Wyse portfolio, Dell has announced.

The vendor is first unveiling software, namely the Wyse ThinOS 8.2, which now includes the Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack, which enables Lync 2010, Lync 2013 and the Skype for Business 1.8.

Second, Dell is unveiling a Citrix version of Appliance for Wyse, a VDI macine that combines server, storage and networking capabilities for simplified deployment of a Citrix environment. According to Dell, it’s a 2U module scalable for up to 5,000 users with XenDesktop.

For Dell, this is just one of a “vast range of use cases” of virtual desktop, which the company has been increasingly promoting over the past year.

In addition to the unified communications (UC) capabilities of ThinOS 8.2, the operating system also supports encryption functions, including TLS 1.2 with AES, and 802.1x wired and wireless authentication protocols.

It’ backwards compatible for machines including Wyse 5010, 7010 and 5040 AIO with ThinOS, and the Wyse 5010, and 5040 AIO with PCoIP.

Meanwhile, the Citrix-centric appliance includes a a “quick start tool” to help organizations with basic IT resources to quickly setup and configure.

Canadian availability is scheduled for this month for both ThinOS 8.2 and the Dell Appliance for Wyse – Citrix. The latter is priced starting at $616 per user for shared sessions, and $806 per user for traditional desktop virtualization.
