Boasting 50 new features, Crystal Decisions Inc. on Monday released its latest edition of Crystal Reports 9 – a reporting solution designed to help developers and IT professionals tightly integrate content into .Net and Java applications.
Through the product’s new Report Application Server (RAS), end-users can view, interact and modify the reports at runtime without increasing their overhead, according to a statement released by the company. As well, the new Report Parts feature allows end-users to access and navigate report elements through wireless devices, portals and Microsoft Corp.’s Office documents. Using version 9, developers can also share and reuse existing reporting components across multiple reports for single-point updating and more productive report development and integration.
The addition of this functionality will allow for productivity gains, and will enable developers to quickly and cost-effectively put information into the hands of business users for improved insight and better decision-making, said Tony Wind, chief technology officer of Palo Alto, Calif.-based Crystal Decisions in a statement.
Crystal Reports 9 can also be integrated with Crystal Enterprise, a Web-based platform for reporting, analysis and information delivery. Developers can extend Web applications that incorporate Crystal Reports to Crystal Enterprise in order to deliver information in a highly scalable environment where system manageability, scheduling, security and fault tolerance are required, according to a statement released by the company.
Three editions of Crystal Reports 9 are available: the Professional Edition, the Standard Edition, and the Advanced Edition. They sell for US$495, US$195, and US$199, respectively.
