Ottawa-based software vendor Corel Corp. released the latest version of its word processor, WordPerfect Office X4, equipped with new business intelligence and additional PDF capabilities.
The suite’s new business intelligence component lets users convert data into visuals, and perform data analysis to identify possible trends.
Users can also import, edit and export PDF documents, including scanned PDFs using the new version. The company said the PDF support will reduce the need for third-party PDF software, and enable users to better collaborate and share files considering the widespread use of PDF.
Also facilitating file sharing is the user file format freedom that the new version grants, with compatibility with Microsoft Office 2007 files (OOXML) and Open Document Format (ODF).
The release also includes Web collaboration and storage services, a new document redaction tool, and a Web-connected digital notebook.
Jason Larock, director of product management for WordPerfect Office said the goal was to deliver an office suite to help users better communicate ideas and drive results. “We believe that our latest release provides users with an office suite that responds to their real-world needs and gives them the power to do more with words, numbers, and ideas,” he said.
Rob Enderle, principal analyst with the Enderle Group, said that with the new release, “Corel has created the most interoperable office suite in the market.”
