Compaq Computer Corp.’s ProSignia line of computers, aimed at small businesses, ended Tuesday, as the company said it decided to fold the line into its Deskpro PCs and Armada portable computers.
Compaq dropped the ProSignia series to streamline product offerings, the company said in a release. Compaq will expand the Deskpro commercial desktop line and the Armada commercial notebook line to include new “S” edition models – Deskpro EXS, Armada E500S and Armada 100S – designed for small-business users as a replacement for the ProSignia series.
The Deskpro EX starts at US$699 and is available as either a desktop or minitower chassis. It comes with Intel Corp.’s Celeron or Pentium III processors with speeds of 566MHz to oneGHz, up to 512M bytes of memory and a variety of component options, Compaq said. The Deskpro EXS models feature similar configurations and options available on the Deskpro EX models, with the choice of a pre-installed Microsoft Corp. application – Microsoft Office – and Symantec Corp.’s Norton AntiVirus software.
The Armada 100S portable computer, at $1,099, has an Advanced Micro Devices Inc. K6-2 533MHz processor, with up to a 13.3-inch screen, 24X MAX CD-ROM, 5G-byte hard drive and v.90 56K-bps (bits per second) modem. The E500S, at $2,099, adds other features, including an Intel Pentium III processor of up to 650MHz, choice of up to a 14.1-inch display and either hard drives of either 5G bytes, 12G bytes or 18G bytes.
