Companies collaborate on storage

Storage provider Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek) and enterprise management company BMC Software Inc. announced on Tuesday that the latter’s software is now compatible with StorageTek’s D-Series of disk products.

The D-Series includes the D173, D178 and D280 subsystems, which enable users to protect and administer their data, the company said. D-Series products can be used in open system environments such as Linux. In addition, StorageTek’s BladeStore inline storage subsystem is now also compatible with BMC Software’s Patrol Storage Management Suite, which includes the Patrol for LSI Logic Storage Systems Knowledge Module.

The support will allow StorageTek D-Series and BladeStore customers to utilize the software company’s management product to improve upon storage capacity and performance, the company said.

Late last year, the StorageTek joined BMC’s Software ACSM Consortium, enabling the interoperability of their products. The Consortium is a technology-based business partner program that intends to expand each company’s customer base. As of last November, the Consortium had 23 business members that were involved in the program to test, develop and integrate storage management products
