CollabNet on Thursday is introducing Subversion Edge, a distribution of the Subversion software version control system featuring a Web-based management interface, the ViewVC repository viewer, and the Apache Web server.
Subversion Edge enables quick deployment of a Subversion server and reduces ongoing administration time, CollabNet said. The interface simplifies administration, installation, and use of the software stack, CollabNet said. An update mechanism is featured to notify users when new components are available. The components can be installed directly from the Web-based UI. ViewVC enables browsing of a Subversion repository and development of reports.
CollabNet founded Subversion in 2000, said company CEO Bill Portelli in a statement released by the company.
“What’s clear is that Subversion installation, administration, security and governance have historically been command-line-driven, requiring special expertise and up-to-the-minute knowledge,” Portelli said. “Responding to this challenge, we created CollabNet Subversion Edge, with an elegant user interface, automated configuration and update notifications that will revolutionize Subversion deployment.”
The product is offered under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. The beta version of Subversion Edge is available at CollabNet’s Website. General availability is expected later this summer.
