Former U.S. president Bill Clinton will speak at Oracle Corp.’s application developers convention AppsWorld in New Orleans on Monday, fueling rumors that he may be asked to join Oracle’s board of directors.
Oracle’s president Larry Ellison and Clinton are known to be friends, and Ellison brought former White House press secretary, Joe Lockhart, on board as Oracle’s communications director in November.
Oracle has not yet disclosed Clinton’s speaking fee, but the former president reportedly accepted between US$100,000 and $150,000 to speak to financial company Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. The company’s chief executive officer issued an apology to shareholders shortly after.
