ORLANDO, FLA. – At its iForum 2002 user conference, Citrix Systems Inc. announced Monday that it is working with IBM Corp. and VMware Inc. to deliver an interoperable server/client consolidation solution.
Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Citrix makes software that allows enterprises to port Windows and other operating systems to “thin clients” over a network. Company officials said the consolidation offering will enable remote offices to simplify IT environments and reduce desktop administration tasks via centralized application delivery.
The solution uses Citrix MetaFrame XP application serving and management software and VMware’s ESX Server virtual machine software, which runs on the IBM eServer xSeries 440 four- to 16-way Intel-processor based system.
Citrix said the offering is designed to smooth management of application sets, user populations and server farms by optimizing the performance of physical servers required to support corporate users and the time spent on hardware provisioning, back-ups and recovery.
The joint partnership creates an offering that address IT “pain points” by taking stress off the physical data centre and IT administrator, said Roger Rose, vice-president of enterprise partner sales for Citrix.
The new solution will be available to customers by the end of November, Citrix said.
