In 1882, printer James Grand launched a stationery business from a single room in a Toronto house and used a wheelbarrow to make door-to-door sales and deliveries. His ingenuity and hard work soon began to pay off and Grand expanded his product line to include an assortment of business supplies. Recognizing a hot opportunity, the office outfitter’s brother-in-law, Samuel Toy, joined the business and together the pair opened the first Grand & Toy retail store in Toronto the following year. The rest, as they say, is history.
