EMC Corp., the data storage firm from Hopkinton, Mass., last month updated its software to improve data recovery and protection. Navisphere 6.0 offers Web access for remote management of EMC’s Clariion systems, employing SSL, user authorization, classification and identification. MirrorView 1.3, a data mirroring application, now lets Clariion systems use the same port for host application traffic and remote mirroring traffic, EMC said. SnapView software 1.3, which captures images of work in progress, provides up to eight images at a time for back-ups and “parallel work processes” on the fly, according to the company. The PowerTech Group Inc., a Kent, Wash.-based data security firm specializing in IBM Corp. servers, earlier this month unveiled two new protective products for iSeries and AS/400 boxes. The SecurityMonitor application allows network managers to define security events based on message IDs, arrival time and other factors, and configure responses. The program also notifies administrators as security threats are detected, the company said. The SecureScreen software locks unauthorized users out of unattended workstations, based on instructions from the admnistrator. The PowerTech Group says the new applications give iSeries and AS/400 users greater control without hampering flexibility. Pricing was not available. RSA Security Inc. from Bedford, Mass. says its ClearTrust 4.7 Web access management software is now available in Canada. The program gives end-users access to corporate information via a Web interface and single sign-on. RSA said ClearTrust employs data abstraction layer (DAL) architecture so administrators may grant or deny access according to user information. The company added that “native interoperability” means the software works alongside existing infrastructure and datastores, thereby increasing legacy investments.
